DISTANCE RIDING PROGRAM

A $20 entry fee to IHWHA Members. The International Heritage Walking Horse Association (IHWHA) Distance Riding Program has been established to give recognition to the pleasure and competitive rider and his/her Heritage Walking Horse for miles in the saddle. For each mile achievement reached, return the miles log and you will receive one of many great awards! All mile logs must be turned in at the end of each calendar year for the high mileage of the year award.


PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS


  • Must`be an IHWHA member in good stand (Be current in membership dues)
  • Member must fill out program entry form and submit to IHWHA
  • The program is maintained on the "Honor System". Use of a GPS is highly recommended but not necessary
  • Miles may be logged for any an all time spent riding (Pleasure, trail, arena, demonstrations, drills, horse shows, parades, etc)
  • Member must record miles on the mileage sheet and submits it via mail or email when a mile achievement has been reached (100, 250, 500, 750, and 1000 miles) or the end of the calendar year

Our first program is the Scholarship. A $250 scholarship is given to a student who is active with Heritage Walking Horses. It is available to any student IHWHA member who is going to college or trade school. Applicants must write an essay describing what their role with Heritage Walking Horses is and what they plan to go on to school for. Tell us about yourself, where you are from, what extra curricular activities you participate in at high school. Talk about your interests and what you plan to study post-high school. Explain your involvement with the Heritage Walking Horses. If anyone needs a great example of an essay, check out David Graf's winning essay in the MarchApril 2021 Heritage Highlights.  All scholarship applications are due to IHWHA by August 1 of each year.
